Information On The Original Coin:
The penny minted during the reign of Alexander III features the Berwick mint mark and belongs to the second coinage. A significant number, around 50 million of these coins, were produced. The face of the coin is inscribed with ""ALEXANDER DEI GRA"", translating to ""Alexander by the grace of God"". The reverse showcases ""REX SCOTORUM"", meaning ""KING OF SCOTS"".

Information On The Coins Commissioner:
King Alexander III ascended the throne of Scotland when he was just under eight years old, following the death of his father, Alexander II, in 1249. He later married Margaret, the daughter of Henry III, the King of England. Alexander III's reign came to an end in 1285, and he was succeeded by his grand-daughter, Margaret of Norway. However, her untimely death at just seven years old resulted in a succession dispute. This led to the involvement of Edward I, King of England, who arbitrated over the matter.
