This ancient Byzantine crown, which has survived the Mongols, Turks, Civil Wars, the Nazis and the Soviets, is believed to have been sent by Pope Sylvester II to St. Stephen I in the year 1000.

The bent cross has long been a point of speculation, During the 2nd World War the crown was sheltered in Canada giving the opportunity for detailed examination, and the cross seems to have been intentionally made bent! We may never know why!

The crown was returned to Hungary in 1978.
