Information On The Original Coin:
This Roman Denarius coin was struck in silver from the mint in Rome. The facsimile coin is inscribed with the words IMP CAES DOMITIANVS AVG PM / IVPPITER CONSERVATOR and depicts an Eagle upon a thunderbolt.
Information On The Coins Commissioner:
Domitian initially shared the title of Emperor with his father, Vespasian, and brother, Titus. Vespasian had previously served as one of Claudius’s commanders in Britain. When Domitian assumed sole power in 81 AD, he backed Agricola, the Governor of Britain, in their efforts to bring the entirety of Britain under Roman control. Their campaign extended as far as Inverness, though they never succeeded in fully subjugating the region.
