To the early Christians, the across was a symbol of victory worthy to bear the richest ornament and the most precious of gems. The concept of the jewelled cross of CRUX GEMMATA, as it was known, spread from Byzantium in the East, to Spain and Ireland in the West and sumptuous gold crosses may be admired in Cathedral Treasuries and Museums throughout the world, many of them well over a thousand years old and many of them still in use for processional or devotional purposes. As an item of personal jewellery worn by either sex, it has remained unrivalled in popularity. This simple design which harks back to the early Middle Ages had been set with a faux aquamarine, a stone which was believed at the time to be a sovereign remedy against poisons of all kinds. Only the highest grade, nickel free alloys have been used, the jewellery is hand polished and then gold toned. The gems themselves are Bohemian Crystals Bohemian Crystals.
