St George and the dragon brooch: St George and the Dragon brooch - the legend of St George and the dragon is ancient: a dragon made its lair next to the water source for a town so in order to collect water the townspeople had to distract the dragon with a human sacrifice, which they chose by drawing lots. One day the princess was chosen, but St George rescued her by slaying the dragon. This gold-plated and enamelled brooch is modelled on one from the workshop of Froment-Meurice and Francoise Desire, Paris, 1855.
