During King Edward's reign, there were multiple designs of silver pennies produced at various mints located throughout England, from Barnstable in the west to places like Bury St Edmunds and Colchester in East Anglia and extending to areas like Derby and Reading.

Edward the Confessor, born around the year 1003 in Islip, Oxfordshire, was the son of Aethelred the Unready. He ascended to the throne in 1042. The title ""the Confessor"" was attributed to Edward due to his notable piety. His significant contributions included the founding of Westminster Abbey, where he was later buried. Recognized for his devout nature and contributions to the church, Edward the Confessor was canonised in 1161."
