This facsimile threepenny piece showcases the pheon mint mark, which was employed between 1561 and 1565. The inscriptions circling the coin say ELIZABET DG ANG FRA ET HIB REGINA, which is translated to Elizabeth by the grace of God Queen of England France and Ireland. The reverse inscription, POSVI DEV ADIVTOREM MEV, translates to I have made God my helper.

Information On The Coins Commissioner:
Elizabeth I, born in 1533, was the daughter of Henry VIII. She ascended the throne in 1558 after the death of her half-sister Mary I, effectively replacing Mary’s husband, Philip II King of Spain, who had been named joint sovereign in 1553. Elizabeth reigned until her death in 1603. Her reign, commonly referred to as the Elizabethan Age, was marked by a spirit of exploration and innovation. A particularly notable event was Sir Francis Drake's victorious encounter with the Spanish Armada, highlighting England's rising naval supremacy.
